What is Ma.K.?
Ma.K. ZbV3000 is the abbreviated form of Maschinen Krieger, of SF3D. A particular set of model designs which were originally released as models in the 1980's via artwork that appeared in Hobby Japan magazine, under the name SF3D, by the model maker Nitto with designs by Kow Yokoyama.
The designs have developed over the years and new suits/ships/craft been added, but they have never enjoyed a huge following and are relatively uncommon outside Japan.
The models are almost exclusively 1:20 scale.
The Background Story
The setting for Ma.K. is as follows:
In 2807 World War IV breaks out on the Earth with 80% of the population was killed. The destruction is such that the planet is no longer habitable and survivors leave to settle on other colony planets and create a new civilization in space.
Forty-eight years later the Galactic Federation sends a team to investigate, who find that the Earth is habitable again. In 2859 the first colonists (from the planet K-156) settled in Western Australia. The Galactic Federation provides a two year food supply and necessary farming equipment. In the next 20 years a small number of cities grow but as they expand criminals, AWOL soldiers, political criminals, terrorists etc begin to make their way back to Earth as a suitable place for refuge. The civil unrest which results from their presence creates problems for the original colonists. They form small militias to maintain order but there is no organised force to take control. In 2877, the Galactic Federation Committee gives the Strahl Democratic Republic (SDR) the right to return public order on Earth. The SDR sends in three Strahl Military Police Battalions and three Strahl Foreign Legion Battalions to help restore peace, although with a heavy hand. Although the colonists were happy to see a restore to order their lives are now affected by the presence of the SDR police forces. The colonists soon realized that the price for safety was their own freedom.
Growing resentful of the restrictions placed on their lives, the first terrorism against the SDR forces occurrs in 2880. The SDR quickly responds with even harsher restrictions. Many of the colonists are the decedents of mercenary troops forced to become refugees after the end of World War IV. The colonists were becoming to realize that if they wanted to rid themselves of the SDR presence, they would have to use force.
In 2882, the colonists band together with hired troops to form the Earth Independent Provisional Government. They declare independence from the Galactic Federation. The SDR predict this move and erect a puppet government the very next day, mobilizing additional battle corps in the name of suppressing a rebellion. In return the Earth Independent Provisional Government organizes the Independent Mercenary Army (IMA) and immediately declares war against the occupying forces. They attack police offices, communication networks, and military safe zones. Their surprise attack results in many SDR prisoners and stockpiles of captured military equipment. In a surprise move, the three Strahl Foreign Legion Battalions defect from the SDR and side with the IMA. The surprise attack results in quick occupation of nearly all essential SDR points.
On September 25, 2882, the SDR deploys the 7th Armored Mobile Infantry Division into Australia and establishes a wide beachhead, bring in troops and supplies.
The battle for colonist's independence quickly spreads to eventually include major conflicts on every continent.
